Open call: "Reporting Change" Research Trip to Georgia October 2024

n-ost invites ten European journalists, including citizens/residents of non-EU countries, to participate in a research trip to Tbilisi ahead of the parliamentary elections in October 2024.

Programme 

The group of 10 journalists will attend meetings with key stakeholders including Georgian politicians, representatives of human rights organisations, civil society groups, and local journalists and media experts. Journalists are expected to develop and produce at least one publication in any format as the outcome of the research trip.

The programme is developed in cooperation with a local journalist and aims to deepen European journalists' understanding of Georgia's political landscape ahead of the crucial parliamentary election, support them in developing stories for audiences in their home countries, and foster connections with Georgian journalists.


Organisational matters

Flights to Tbilisi, accommodation, and meals are covered. Transportation to the airport and other transportation costs within Tbilisi are covered by the participants.

Participation fee: 200€ (full price)

We offer to accommodate participants who cannot afford the full fee by offering a sliding scale reduced fee, considering participants' employment status and country of residence. The minimal participation fee is 100€.

The working language of the programme is English.


Requirements

  • We encourage journalists from different backgrounds to apply. 
  • Applicants should have 3+ years of experience in journalism. 
  • Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in reporting about the election and the political developments in Georgia beyond the timeframe of the research trip, as well as fostering collaboration with Georgian colleagues. 
  • Journalists must be able to secure placement for their publications independently.
  • Previous experience in reporting from Georgia is not required.
  • All candidates must be proficient in English.
