After the kitchen talk: Bosnian media and the genocide – 30 years after

Published on Jul 23, 2025

Thirty years after the Srebrenica massacre and other bloody atrocities in the Balkans the weapons have fallen silent. But has the media gone silent as well? How has the Bosnian media landscape reported on the genocide? And more broadly, what role does journalism play in social reconciliation and shaping collective memory?

These are some of the questions we wanted to explore at our June kitchen talk. For this heavy topic, n-ost could gain two proficient speakers to share their expertise: Adnan Ćerimagić, Senior Analyst for the Western Balkans at the European Stability Initiative, and Aleksandar Miladinović, Reporter for the BBC World Service Serbian. Moderated by n-ost programme manager Anneke Hudalla, the panelists engaged in a conversation on the role of journalism in the aftermath of genocide.
