kitchen talk goes Kino Krokodil: Lines of conflict in a polarised Hungary

Join us for a talk and a screening of “Explanation for Everything” by Gábor Reisz. Every second Wednesday of the month we invite journalists, experts and their audiences to the n-ost media hub for conversations on journalism and its impact. In March, however, we’re trying something new: At Kino Krokodil, we present to you a moving portrayal of a polarised society and the pressures of populism.

About the film

A failed final exam becomes a nationwide scandal? Anything can be instrumentalised if it helps the right-wing populist government, and right-wing politics is booming in Europe and beyond. “Explanation for Everything” is a sharp and detailed portrayal of a socially divided Hungary and a lesson about the growing populism in Europe.

With journalist and project manager Kornélia Kiss we will talk about politics and society in her home country: How does the polarisation of the media in Hungary affect the social climate? What does the government's media policy mean for Hungarian journalists and independent reporting? What role can film and art play in overcoming social conflict?
