10 Years Of War: How To Talk About The Occupied Territories (Kyiv Media Hub event)

Kyiv Media Hub is a series of monthly events and networking activities in the framework of “The Europe-Ukraine Desk” project. These events are aimed at bringing together Ukrainian journalists and their foreign colleagues to discuss professional topics related to journalistic work in Ukraine, share experiences, and create opportunities for collaboration.

On 16 February, a panel discussion “10 Years Of War: How To Talk About The Occupied Territories” took place in Kyiv, at the venue of First Conference Hall (25 Khreschatyk Str.). It focused on the challenges of reporting about Ukraine’s territories, such as Donetsk, Luhansk, and Crimea, that were occupied in the first months of Russia’s war against Ukraine launched in 2014.

Invited speakers:

– Alim Aliev, deputy director of the Ukrainian Institute;

– Kateryna Zarembo, a social sciences scholar.

Moderation by Angelina Kariakina – co-founder of a Public Interest Journalism Lab.

The event was live streamed on Facebook page n-ost and partner pages: Lviv Media Forum, UkraineWorld, Detector Media, and Mediamaker.

The Kyiv Media Hub features expert speakers, panel discussions, interactive workshops and non-formal gatherings. It is open to all journalists and media professionals working in Ukraine.
