Michal Hvorecky

Michal Hvorecky, author and translator, born in 1976, lives in Bratislava and writes books for adults as well as for children. Three of his novels, a novella, and the children's book "Donau – Ein magischer Fluss" (“Danube – A Magical River”) have been published in German. He regularly contributes articles to Falter and F.A.Z. In his home country, Slovakia, he is actively involved in defending press freedom, opposing anti-democratic developments, and promoting reading. In 2026, his personal political nonfiction book “Dissident” was published by Tropen Verlag. Karl Schlögel was "enthralled by the book, by the precision of the memories, the fascinating family history, and the resolve—indeed, also the confidence—that speaks from its pages."
