Unit meeting in Krakow and book presentation

Published on Oct 9, 2023

Queer stories from Central Asia, Eastern Europe and South Caucasus: the book by Unit project, a part of n-ost, is out. Presented at the Unit meeting in Krakow 4-8 of October 2023, it captures the diverse realities of queer communities in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine. 💜 Explore these powerful narratives in interviews, essays, photo projects, podcasts, and short documentaries. Read the stories at unit.n-ost.org and discover the struggles, joys, and resilience of these communities.

We collaborated with authors, editors, and media who contributed to the issue during challenging times marked by significant political shifts. While Ukraine is defending itself in a full-scale Russian invasion, Azerbaijan is pursuing its military interests in Armenia. Several countries have introduced or keep going back to discussing laws against "foreign agents" or the so-called "LGBT propaganda.

Moreover, state pressure on the media and limitations on freedom of speech are intensifying. LGBTIQ+ people are actively engaged in these complex social and political processes, and queer bodies are at the forefront of political battles worldwide.
