n-ost Media Conferences

Annual n-ost media conferences provide space to reflect on current political and social topics, discuss the latest developments in the media sector and explore the latest trends in foreign reporting and collaborative journalism.

n-ost media conferences gather around 150+ journalists and media representatives, as well as representatives from the areas of civil society, politics, culture, and science to reflect on recent political and social developments and any particular challenges we face at given time.

The conferences take place yearly – with some exceptions – in rotating locations within our focus region, in collaboration with a local partner organisation. The event usually lasts for three days and consist of joint debates, parallel thematic tracks with discussions, hands-on workshops, and presentations, as well as visits to local newsrooms, political institutions, civil society organisations and more, depending on the overarching conference topic and the local background. The conference language is English.

Within the frame of some conferences, participants could join study trips or apply for publication grants. n-ost's collaborative cross-border publication projects "Second thoughts" (2019, 2018, 2017) and "Off the Beaten Track" (2019-2020) emerged from our media conferences.

The popular format of "kitchen talks" arose from the conferences when local journalists invite their international colleagues to their homes for informal exchange.
