Ulla Lachauer

Born 1951 in Westfalia. She studied history, politics and philosophy in West-Berlin. Since the 1980ies she works as a free lancer for newspapers, public german TV and radio, travelling through eastern Europe (Poland, Lithuania, Kaliningradskaja Oblast, Ukraine), Russia and Kasachstan. Her special interest: East-Prussia before 1945 and the successor societies after World war II, escape, expulsion and new beginning. She was an eyewitness of the liberation movements in eastern Europe 1988ff, documented events, city portraits and biografies in films, radio features and several books, which influenced the german discourse (see my website). And she was engaged in transnational, multicultural projects, developed deep and longlasting friendships. Now, in the end of her professionel life, she gots involved in helping Ukraine in Lüneburg, where she lives, and communicates the situation of refugees in public.
