Sophie Tiedemann studied International Studies with a focus on Eurasia at Leiden University in the Netherlands. She now lives in Leipzig and works as a freelance journalist for various German-language print and online magazines and newspapers. Her reporting covers historical topics, human rights violations, and anti-democratic movements. In 2024, she spent seven weeks in Sofia, Bulgaria, as part of a fellowship from the International Journalists’ Programme.
