Correspondent & Independent Journalist
Based in: Ukraine
Lieselotte Hasselhoff is a reporter and Ukraine correspondent with a background in sociology. Based in Kyiv, she reports on how Russia’s war is reshaping the lives of civilians, from drone terror in frontline cities to persecution under occupation, and on how innovation emerges under the pressure of war, particularly in the defence industry. Her reporting draws on her previous sociological research on national identity and belonging in Ukraine, conducted in 2016. Today, she is driven above all by the question of where Europe is heading in its diversity and political upheaval, and how Ukraine fits into that picture. She also reports occasionally from Ukraine’s neighbouring countries, particularly Hungary. She is a finalist of Deutscher Journalistenpreis 2026.
