James Hopper is a University of Bristol graduate with a strong background in Russian and post-Soviet politics. His work focuses on delivering first-hand accounts of Russia's war in Ukraine, domestic politics in Russia, and the lasting influence of the Soviet Union’s collapse on contemporary public attitudes and international relations. James' reporting is informed by a network of Ukrainian contacts, personal experience having travelled to Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, and Moldova, and academic training. He is very interested in cross-border collaboration and reporting which connects lived experience to wider political developments.
