Are you a great storyteller with a passion for cross-border journalism and great writing skills? Do you know how to turn complex media projects into inspiring narratives? Then we want to hear from you!

As our External Communications Manager, you will strategically sharpen n-ost’s messaging, expanding our reach and deepening our impact. You will act as a key driver of our public voice, working closely with our management, our social media manager, and project teams to inspire journalists, donors and supporters alike.

Location: Berlin-Kreuzberg
Scope: 50-60%
Start Date: as soon as possible

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Narrative & Strategy: Develop our core narratives and tailor our tone-of-voice for diverse target audiences (journalists, the general public, individual donors, and institutional funders).

  • Content Creation: Produce, write, and edit high-quality communication outputs, including our regular newsletter/donation campaigns, website content, and the Annual Report.

  • Social Media Steering: Strategically develop and oversee our social media presence (LinkedIn, Instagram, Bluesky, Facebook) in close collaboration with our Social Media Manager.

  • Media Relations: Act as the primary contact for media inquiries and proactively identify opportunities for public positioning and press coverage.

  • Inbound Communication: Manage and respond to external inquiries and proposals via email or phone.

  • Fundraising Support: Assist the team in drafting compelling grant proposals and funding applications.

Your Profile

  • Experience: At least 3 years of professional experience in communications, journalism, PR, or a closely related field (ideally within the NGO or media sector).

  • Strategic Thinking: Proven track record in developing and executing communication strategies.

  • Language Skills: Exceptional writing and editing skills in English (working language). Professional proficiency in German is a strong asset.

  • Passion: A deep interest in journalism trends, media development, and current European affairs.

  • Mindset: Comfortable and thriving in a diverse, international, and non-profit environment.

  • Tech-Savvy: Confident using digital communication tools, analytics, CMS, and AI-assisted workflows to optimize content creation.
