Emilia Sulek is an award-winning journalist and author of non-fiction books about Eastern Europe and Central Asia. She has a PhD in Social Anthropology and Central Asian Studies from Humboldt University in Berlin, and has extensive fieldwork experience in Central Asia, Mongolia, Tibet, Ukraine, Poland, Belarus, Moldova and the Baltic States, both as a journalist and a scholar. She specializes in social reportage, but also writes analytical pieces, investigative stories, interviews and reviews. She regularly collaborates with OKO.press and WOZ Die Wochenzeitung. Her work has also been published in The Guardian, New Lines Magazine, Meduza, The Diplomat, Strassenmagazine Surprise, Gazeta Wyborcza, Polityka, Der Standard and many others. In addition to writing, she has taught Central Asia-related topics at numerous universities in Germany and Switzerland, and offers workshops in pitching and creative writing.
