Serhiy Morgunov

Photographer, filmmaker, Ukraine

I'm an independent Ukrainian filmmaker, cinematographer and documentary photographer. I have taken part in international exhibitions, have been published in international media and books. Since June 2014, I have volunteered in the ATO zone (The War on Donbas), close to the demarcation line. In March 2017, I was nominated for Joop Swart Masterclass by World Press Photo.

Also known in Ukraine for civic activism and artistic projects, focusing on the topics of human rights, a culture, post-soviet transformations of a society, lifestyle in small towns.

I’m inspiring avant-gardists of the beginning of XX century, who was limited to recourses and wide understanding, but they are setting the tone for a new vision of the usual challenges to society. I'm also finding an inspiration in photographs made by Josef Kudelka, Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eugene Smith, Vitas Luckus, Augustus Francis Sherman, Alexander Rodchenko, Mykola Senkivsky etc.
