Anne Ackermann

Photojournalist, Germany

Anne Ackermann is a documentary photographer based in Germany, working worldwide.

She studied Visual Communication and Photojournalism in Hamburg, Buenos Aires and Aarhus (Denmark). She started freelancing in 2009 and received an Eastern Europe Research Grant from Friedrich Ebert Foundation (2009).

She was nominated for the Joop Swart Masterclass in 2010. 2011 Anne was selected for Noorderlicht Photography Masterclass and received a grant from VG Bildkunst for “The Gulu Project” about the aftermath of war in Northern Uganda. She was also awarded 1st prize with her piece on intersexuality by the ‘profamilia journalism award’ in 2012.

2015 she was shortlisted for the prestigious Hansel Mieth Preis in Germany. 2016 she was selected as a laureate of the 5th edition of the Photoreporter Festival of the Baie de Saint-Brieuc, France. In 2017 she came in finalist at the International Women Photographers Award (IWPA) and The Jacob Riis Award.

Her work has been widely exhibited, e.g. at the New York Photo Festival, Photoreporter Festival, PhotoGrafia Festival Rome, Angkor Photo Festival, Belfast Photo Factory, Triennial of Photography Hamburg, F-Stop Festival Leipzig, Goethe Institute Ecuador, OPEN Photo, Alliance Francaise Dubai and many others.
